Georgia's interview with her Grandma

Georgia interviewed her grandma about when she was young and amidst a polio epidemic. This isn't the first time in New Zealand that we have been involved in a global health crisis.

Polio Outbreak
When the polio epidemic broke out I was lucky enough to live in a remote part of the North Island where the epidemic failed to reach. Because I was a 17 year old nurse as the disease was ending I got the opportunity to take care of the recovering patients of the epidemic.
There was one specific 30 year old man that was recovering from the disease that I took care of, because of the disease the muscles in his legs had weakened to the point of not being able to walk. I took care of him and helped him gain a bit more leg muscle.
I found out that in 1956 people had stopped getting infected but the man that I took care of couldn't walk by himself and was still recovering in 1961. I was just glad that I could help closer to the end of the disease with the recovering patients. My family wasn't worried because they knew it was all under control and no one was catching it anymore.

Archie's Matariki Star

Flax Star

We had to make a flax star and mine turned out good, First, me and my dad went to go and get some flax.
Once we had some flax we had to watch the video but It was too complicated so we typed up another one and it was a lot easier to do than our first one, What I enjoyed when doing this was that I had never done It before or anything like it so it was a challenge, but my dad was helping me so it was a lot easier.
My Dad made It so you can hang it on the Christmas tree whats why there's a loop on the top.
you should try this at home using this link   https://youtu.be/asFmG1iyYQw I hope you try this soon.

Flanders Fields

In this morning's Google Hangout we talked about not settling for the minimum. To extend yourself, whether that be in research, details, standards of presentations etc. Holly stepped up to the mark with this slideshow on Flanders Fields.

Grace and Harley's ANZAC wreaths

As part of our choice activities at home, students could choose to make an ANZAC wreath out of whatever they could find. Don't these two quite different wreaths both look amazing. Well done Grace and Harley.
